YMCA camp to begin June 9

The Anderson Family YMCA will conduct the United Summer Adventures Camp that will run from June 9 through Aug. 15. The program will be held at Eastside Elementary, Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free meals will be served. For more information, call Mecca Andrews-Hill at (765) 644-7796.

Teaching librarian to speak in Elwood

Brenda Click, Fairmount resident and teaching librarian for the Madison-Grant Schools, will be speaking at the Elwood Public Library, at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Her book, “The Gift of Peace,” was published in February. The book takes place in 1943 Elwood, during World War II. This book will appeal to all ages from children to adults. All ages and families are invited to this author visit. Copies of “The Gift of Peace” will be available for purchase. For more information, call the library at (765) 552-5001.

Humane Society concert Saturday

Reaul, a band from Indianapolis, will be playing a benefit concert for the Madison County Humane Society on Saturday at Wings Etc. on Scatterfield Road in Anderson. The festivities begin with an organized motorcycle ride ending at Wings Etc. The open-air benefit concert will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., featuring other local area bands. Reaul released its self-titled EP this past December and has gained a sizable local fan base. Recently, the band performed a record-breaking show at Rock Lobster in Broad Ripple. The band’s single “Going Down” is currently being played on WEEM-FM 91.7. The band will also be appearing live at Spin, Broad Ripple, on May 29 with Records Record Records.

Church assembling a book of memories

A scrapbook of memories of the Shirley Nazarene Church is in the making. If anyone has pictures of church members or pictures of the church, please contact Beverly Estell, P.O. Box 243, Shirley, IN. Once the book is completed, items will be returned to their rightful owners.

Volunteers sought for Super Adoption

Volunteers are needed to help with Petfest Super Adoption, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Animal Care and Control, 613 Dewey St., Anderson. Workers are needed to grill food, help show the animals, assist in adoptions and perform other tasks. To volunteer, call Mary at (765) 621-6441. There will also be an auction, with all proceeds going toward the Animal Care and Control. Items are now being collected for the auction. Veterans Affairs seeks drivers

Veterans Affairs is seeking two volunteer van drivers to take veterans to doctors appointments on Mondays and Fridays to Indianapolis, Marion and Muncie. Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and no felonies. If interested, call Becki Brown at (765) 641-9751.

USA, AARP set meetings

United Senior Action will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday on the third floor of the Anderson Public Library. Guest speaker will be local elder law attorney John W. Longnaker III. The AARP local Chapter 1686 will conduct its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, on the third floor of the Anderson Public Library. The change of the meeting date is due to upgrading being completed by the library.
