Spencer named to dean’s list

EVANSTON, Ill. — Craig E. Spencer of Carmel, a student in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestem University, has been na:ned to the dean’s list for the winter quarter of the 2007-08 academic year. Spencer is the son of Brenda and Mitch Spencer, and the grandson of Melvin and Martha Spencer of Anderson, and Jack and Betty Miller of Shirley.

Townsend completes studies at ISU

Louis “Eddie” Townsend Jr. graduated May 3 from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, receiving a degree in insurance and business. He is a 2004 graduate of Anderson High School and is the son of Louis Townsend Sr. and Dawna Townsend King of Anderson. He is the grandson of Plexico and Annabelle Weathersbee of Anderson and Shirley Townsend of Anderson and the late Curtis Townsend.

Hiatt accepted to University

Jordan Hiatt, son of Steven Hiatt and Kimberly Law of Marion, has been accepted to the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, Ohio, to begin classes in the fall quarter where he will be majoring in the business program. He attends Frankton Jr./Sr. High School.

Ward to begin dentistry studies

Danielle Ward graduated from Anderson University on May 10 with a bachelor’s degree in biology/pre-dentistry. She will pursue a career as an orthodontist, and will start IU School of Dentistry (Indianapolis) this July as a member of the class of 2012. She is the daughter of Julie Ward of Anderson and Terry Ward of Frankton. She is a 2004 graduate of Frankton High School.

Kelley receives radio certificate

Ralynn Kelley, sales representative at WCRD FM 91.3 in Muncie, has successfully met the requirements to earn the designation of radio marketing professional as certified by the Radio Advertising Bureau. Kelley is a senior at Ball State University majoring in telecommunications with a concentration in promotions and marketing. She is the daughter of Lelia Kelley, Anderson, and Anthony Williams of Benton Harbor, Mich. She will begin an internship at the Madison County Community Health Center Inc. in May.

The Radio Marketing Professional certificate graduates must complete a rigorous course of study that focuses on mastering the knowledge and skills necessary to help local businesses maximize their advertising success. To earn their RMP diploma, candidates must pass a challenging written examination. The Radio Advertising Bureau is the sales and marketing arm of the radio industry with more than 5,000 member stations, networks, and related radio sales organizations in the U.S. and abroad.

Skaggs attends medicine program

LAPEL — Kurt Skaggs, a student at Lapel High School, was one of a select group of students who recently attended the Molecular Medicine In Action program at Indiana University School of Medicine. Among other activities, Skaggs and other students isolated DNA in test tubes, stained chromosomes in order to identify mutations, learned about issues in bioethics and practiced techniques for inserting genes into cells. Program director was Mark Kelley, Ph.D., associate director of the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research.

Wharton graduates Savannah College

James Wharton of Pendleton recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography.
