Preschool now enrolling

Clay Pots Preschool & Child Care Ministry, First Christian Church Summitville, 712 E. Walnut St., Summitville, is enrolling full- and part-time child care.

Day care (full and part-time for 1- to 6-year-olds) is available Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Little Sprouts Preschool (ages 3 & 4), Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 10:30 a.m. or noon to 2:30 p.m.; Pre-K (must be 4 by Aug. 1), Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8 to 10:30 a.m. or noon to 2:30 p.m.; and Summer Camp (kindergarten through fourth grade), May 28-Aug. 8, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Scholarships available for training

Through a grant received from the Indiana State Department of Health, the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter will be awarding 400 Web-based training scholarships to certified nursing assistants who work in a state licensed facility in Indiana.

The online dementia care training for direct care workers is a state-of-the-art, Internet-based multimedia program with six hours of continuing education available. The program is divided into six modules, covering a variety of topics. The program is easy to stop and start again and is available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The scholarship applications must be received by June 1.

Crime investigation workshop offered

With more than 18 million viewers each week, “CSI” is a television hit. The Pendleton Community Public Library also has a hit on its hands with a program on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the community room.

Two of the top investigators and crime novelists of the United States will share the ins and outs of Real CSI. Iowa’s Lt. Chris Kaufman is one of the few certified latent print examiners in the United States and has worked as a detective and crime scene investigator on hundreds of cases. Kaufman will describe how crime scene investigations are conducted. Chicago’s Matthew Clemens, president of Robin Vincent Publishing LLC, will focus on the science of forensics and how it can fit within the confines of fiction writing. Clemens is also the uncredited co-author and researcher for Max Allan Collins’ series of books based on the “CSI” television series.

The daylong workshop is free and open to the public. The program is co-sponsored by Writer’s Ink of Central Indiana.
