Countryside plans Pet Stop Saturday
Countryside Animal Rescue has a free fun event in conjunction with the 2007 Little 500 Festival. The Little 500 “Pet Stop” is set for Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at Speck’s Pet Supply located in the Cross Street Marketplace in Anderson at Scatterfield Road and Cross streets. Speck’s Pet Supply, WQME-FM 98.7 and Purina Pro Plan present the special “Rally to Rescue” Pet Adoption Preview event to benefit Countryside Animal Rescue. See pets available for adoption from area animal groups including U.S.A. Defenders of Greyhounds, Central Indiana Sheltie Rescue, Indiana Collie Rescue and others. There will exhibits on grooming, dog obedience and training, and pet products displays. Purina Pro Plan also has a photo contest and will be providing free samples and other giveaways. Anderson Speedway will display a Little 500 sprint race car at the event. Other activities include dog washes, nail trims, refreshments, free samples and prize giveaways. Planning for AHS ’68 class reunion
A meeting to plan the 40th class reunion of Anderson High School will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the law offices of Hulse, Lacey, and Hardacre, 911 Meridian Plaza. Any classmate wishing to help should attend. Anyone with new information about classmates may call Vivian Hardacre at (765) 778-5242. The date for the 40th AHS reunion is planned for Sept. 27 to be held at the Elks Lodge on Broadway in Anderson.
Square dance set Sunday at center
Square dancers are invited to a square dance on Sunday at the Rangeline Community Center, 1405 N. Rangeline Road, Anderson. Pre-rounds are at 6 p.m. and square dance from 6:30 to 9 p.m. There will be a food table as well as door prizes and a half pot.  Caller is Wes Dyer, and the cuer is Bonnie Lawrence.  The group dances the third and fifth Sunday of each month. Bingo basket party at Shrine Club
The Madison County Shrine Ladies Club will sponsor a Longaberger bingo basket party at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Madison County Shrine Club, 2419 White St., Anderson. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for 15 games of bingo. There will be raffle baskets and door prizes. Food and drinks will be available. There will be more than $2,000 worth of baskets and Vera Bradley bags given away. Proceeds will benefit the club’s children’s programs. Church Angel Food pickup Saturday
Middletown Church of the Nazarene Angel Food Pick-Up is from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Ordering dates are from 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday; 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3; 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 7; and 9 a.m.-noon Monday, June 9.

Community offers Breathers Club
The Better Breathers Club is a support group for adults suffering from chronic lung disease, organized through the American Lung Association of Indiana. Club members attend monthly meetings to share experiences, knowledge, ideas and strengths. The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month. Meetings include expert speakers, video presentations and roundtable discussions. The next Better Breathers meeting will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Community Hospital Anderson’s Education Center, 1923 N. Madison Ave. This month’s discussion will center on how chronic obstructive pulmonary disease affects the lungs. ‘Street Beat’ radio show on Monday
“Taking’ It to the Street Beat” will have its monthly broadcast on WHBU-AM 1240 Monday at 7 p.m. at Rebecca’s Beauty Boutique, 1311 Park Road. Topics to be discussed will be electiopn protection, 2010 federal census, future green jobs act and the national popular vote.
First Pentecostal rummage Saturday
The First Pentecostal Church, 6630 W. 53rd St., Anderson. will have its spring rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. A variety of household, clothing and miscellaneous items will be offered for sale.
Local Briefs run daily and include local nonprofit events, such as dinners, breakfasts, sales. If possible, please provide the information a week in advance.
