Garden party is Symphony fundraiser

Reservations are still being accepted for A Noteworthy Garden Party, a fundraiser to benefit the Anderson Symphony Orchestra, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The irises will be blooming at the home of Steve and Nancy Bourke, 6471 S. Fox Chase, Pendleton. Guests are invited to an afternoon of wine, cheese, music and tour of the Bourkes’ home and garden. Reservations, at $50 per person, can be made by calling the Anderson Symphony Orchestra office in the Paramount Theatre Centre, 1124 Meridian Plaza, (765) 644-2111, or the Bourkes, (765) 778-1146.

Daleville library marking 10th year

The Daleville Community Library will celebrate its 10th anniversary at 2 p.m. Sunday. The program will include a reading of the names on the granite tablets and an opportunity to share memories. Cake and punch will be served.

Community offers free cancer testing

To recognize May as National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Community Hospital Anderson will provide free skin cancer screenings to reduce the most common form of cancer that affects one in five Americans. Dr. Priya Young, dermatologist, will perform the screenings on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the Madison County Community Cancer Center, located across the street from Community Hospital Anderson. Registration is required and limited to the first 50 people. Call (800) 777-7775 to register. More than one million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year. Although most skin cancers are curable if detected and treated early, one person dies every hour of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. Sun exposure is the most preventable risk for melanoma.

Immunization clinic for June 3 canceled

The Madison County Health Department Immunization Clinics, normally held on Tuesdays, have been canceled for June 3, as the staff will be away for training, according to a press release from Becky Atkinson, RN, supervisor.

‘Click It or Ticket’ program returning

In an effort to save lives while increasing seat belt use across the state, the Governor’s Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute will join with more than 250 state and local law enforcement agencies to launch Indiana’s “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign. The statewide “Click It or Ticket” seat belt mobilization begins today through June 1. With an emphasis this year on convincing more motorists to buckle up day and night, law enforcement officers will be on the look out for unrestrained motorists around the clock. Through high-visibility enforcement efforts, all drivers and passengers in the Hoosier state will be reminded to buckle up every trip, every time or face a fine.

New Castle library group hosts garage sale

Friends of the Library will host a garage sale in the Bookmobile garage at New Castle-Henry County Public Library on Friday and Saturday. The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Furniture, computer equipment and more will be for sale. All proceeds will benefit Friends of the Library, an organization that supports the activities and services of New Castle-Henry County Public Library.
