Chesterfield Optimist July 4 activities
CHESTERFIELD — Start your Independence Day off right with a 10K or a 5K run and pancake breakfast sponsored by the Chesterfield Optimist Club.
Planned at Millcreek Civic Center, the breakfast will be from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The run sign-up is from 7 to 8:15 a.m. Runs start at 8:30 a.m.
Breakfast tickets will be available at the door, adult $5 and children 12 and under $2.50. The menu includes all the pancakes you care to eat, sausage and a beverage.
The Optimist Club uses funds from these annual events to help support programs that reach more than 500 youth annually. For more information on the runs or the breakfast, call Ted McDuffee, 643-2929.
Downham plans series of concerts
ANDERSON — Downham Music will hold a series of concerts by guitar- and string-based performers through July.
They are: Open jam, 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, free admission; Tom Shinness, 8 p.m. on Friday, July 3, $10 admission; Michael Kelsey, 8 p.m. on Friday, July 10, $10 admission, and three groups, Protest for Pluto, Zephyr and Leon, 8 p.m. on Friday, July 24, $6 admission. Music, fireworks set for Yorktown
YORKTOWN — Morrows Meadow Park is the location for the Friday and Saturday Annual Fireworks Festival sponsored by Yorktown and the Chamber of Commerce. Hours for both days are 4 to 11 p.m. On Friday, Reminisce will perform at 5 p.m. followed by Smokin’ Guns around 8 p.m. Saturday night, Ryan Caudill and the Country Kross Roads will entertain at 5 p.m. with Knot-A-Kloo taking the stage at 8 p.m.
At 8 p.m. on Saturday, the Chamber Duck Race will be held on Buck Creek. Ducks may be purchased from Yorktown retailers and at the Town Hall. They may also be purchased at the park at the Chamber booth. Cost is $5 each or 3 for $12. Prizes will be awarded. There will be inflatable rides for the little ones, rock climbing wall for the next level and bell striker and corn hole tournament. There will be food booths, miscellaneous booths and a beer tent for those over 21. At dark on Saturday night the annual fireworks display will be held.
'Annie' run wraps up this week
INDIANAPOLIS — The Beef & Boards Dinnder Theatre’s production of “Annie” will end its run on July 3. As Beef & Boards’ 2009 family show, it features $10 discounts on tickets for kids ages 3-15. Tickets shows range from $34 to $57, and include Chef Odell Ward’s dinner buffet, full salad bar and unlimited coffee, tea and lemonade. Parking is always free. For reservations, call the box office at (317) 872-9664 anytime between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily.
Marching bands have busy July
The Central Indiana Track Show Association schedule for July includes the following shows with local bands: Thursday, July 16 Archway Classic at Centerville with Frankton participating; Friday, July 17, Spirit of Sound at Muncie Southside High School with Anderson, Highland, Frankton and Lapel participating, and Thursday, July 23, Jay County Fairgrounds at Portland with Lapel, Frankton, Highland and Anderson participating.
