Minnetrista offers ‘Songs of Summer’

Minnetrista will host the program “Wild Songs of Summer” on Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to noon. Special guest Brian Cunningham of Wild Birds Unlimited will teach visitors sounds that are found in nature, such as bird calls. He will also lead guests through both the Wild Music exhibit and nature area to explore the sounds first-hand. Admission is $10 a family for members and $15 per family for non-members.

Registration deadline is Monday.

Ordering dates for ministry released

Ordering dates for the Angel Food Ministry at Middletown Church of the Nazarene will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon; Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cross Roads hosts concert, singles

Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 2000 N. Scatterfield Road, will present a free country/gospel concert at 6 p.m. Saturday. The church will host Singles Night for those over the age of 19 to be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Basic computer lessons on Tuesday

The Alexandria-Monroe Public Library will host an e-mail basics computer class on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. Students will learn how to keep in touch with friends and family using Yahoo mail.

Auditions for Mainstage play this weekend

Mainstage Theatre will hold auditions for its latest play, “There’s a Burglar in My Bed,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the theater, 124 W. Ninth St., Anderson. The play by Michael Parker is a farce about an adulterous wealthy man and his equally adulterous wife. Both want a divorce, but neither wants to part with a piece of the family fortune.

The cast calls for three men ages 25 to 60 and four females from about 20 to 50 years old. Auditioners will be provided excerpts of the play. Eric Schroeder will direct the Mainstage production.

Local People & Places Briefs run daily and include local nonprofit events, such as dinners, breakfasts, sales. If possible, please provide the information a week in advance.
