CHA to host bake sale and raffle
ANDERSON — The Community Hospital Anderson Auxiliary will host a fall bake sale and raffle today from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria.
There will be Thanksgiving desserts and other goodies. Also for sale will be pies, cakes, breads, jams, noodles and more. A raffle drawing will also be going on, and raffle tickets can be purchased at the event. Prizes from the raffle include cash prizes, gift cards, tickets and more.
MCRTA to host meeting
ANDERSON — The Madison County Retired Teachers Association will meet on Monday, Dec. 9, at The Edge, located at Edgewood Golf and Dining. The luncheon begins at noon, with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. Cost of the soup and salad luncheon is $12.
A program will be presented by the Anderson Area Youth Chorale led by Susan Finger.

Society canceling genealogy class
ANDERSON — The Genealogy Department of the Madison County Historical Society originally scheduled a beginning genealogy class for Monday, Dec. 2. Unfortunately, the class is being canceled because of the presenter’s unavailability.
Plans are to reschedule it next year.

Household goods giveaway Saturday
ANDERSON — New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 2318 Sheridan St., will conduct its November monthly giveaway of basic household goods on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. while supplies last.
Items will include but are not limited to various clothing items, dish washing detergent, body/hand soap and paper products for households in need of such items.
Company assisting storm victims
INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance is assisting all clients affected by the severe storms that ravaged Indiana on Nov. 17. The National Weather Service confirmed 28 tornadoes touched the ground in Indiana.
Clients with the most severe damage are the company’s first priority. Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance has 96 claim representatives and appraisers inspecting damage within the affected areas. Staff in local offices, including customer service representatives and agents, are also assisting clients.

Fake diplomat gets 2 years probation
SOUTH BEND — A South Bend man who told police he was a diplomat from the made-up Republic of Mu’ur has been sentenced to two years of probation.
Seventy-seven-year-old Melvin Hillman was stopped by South Bend police in October 2011 because Officer Jamil Elwae thought the license plate looked fake. Elwaer said Hillman produced a card that purported to be issued by the “International Murrican Gansal” and identified him as “Habib Jimamanu Bey.”
