---- — Chamber sets Colts camp trip

ALEXANDRIA -- The Alexandria-Monroe Chamber of Commerce will be taking a bus trip to visit the Colts Training Camp at Anderson University on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The cost is $1 per person and the bus will leave from the Chamber parking lot at 125 N. Wayne St. (next to the City Building). No coolers are allowed in Colts City or the training facilities. For information, call the Chamber office at 724-3144 or email to alexmonroechamber@gmail.com.

Market hosting rib fest contest

ANDERSON -- Strong’s Market, 1909 W. Eighth St., will host its first rib fest competition Saturday, Aug. 24. Prizes will be given for first, second and third place.

The $100 entry fee includes a three-pack of pork spare ribs, choice of 16-pound bag of charcoal and quart of lighter fluid or $15 credit for a propane tank gas exchange and a $15 gift card for other supplies.

Anderson AARP plans activities

ANDERSON -- Anderson AARP’s Chapter will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Perkins Restaurant. The Chapter is also sponsoring a dance at Rangeline Center on Aug. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The chapter’s regular monthly meeting will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at First United Methodist Church, 12th and Jackson streets. Josh Bleill, the community spokesman for the Indianapolis Colts, will present his story of courage, hope, and a new life in the NFL. Legion to host Honor Ceremony

LAPEL -- The Lapel American Legion Post 212 will host its annual Honor Ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. when doors will be closed.

The ceremony will honor Legion members who have died during the last year. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.

Chaplaincy Program golf outing set

ANDERSON — The 18th annual golf outing for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department Chaplaincy Program will be held Saturday at Grandview Golf Course. Shotgun start begins at 7:30 a.m.

Lunch and prizes will be provided. The registration is $200 for a foursome or $50 per player.

Friends of the Poor Run/Walk is Sept. 28

ANDERSON — The St. Vincent de Paul Society will host the annual Friends of the Poor Walk/Run Sept. 28 at Highland Middle School, 2108 E. 200N. The 5K run begins at 8 a.m. and the walk is from noon to 2 p.m.
