Rummage sale to benefit Toy Drive

ALEXANDRIA — The annual rummage sale at Casual Lifestyles Realty to benefit the Alexandria Toy Drive will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m.

All proceeds will go to purchase toys for families in need this Christmas.

The sale will take place at 809 S. Park Ave. (Indiana 9) across from the cemetery.

There will also be food, drinks and a baked-good sale.

APL to host blood drive on Aug. 22

ANDERSON — Anderson Public Library will host a community blood drive 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22.

The Indiana Blood Center bloodmobile will be in the library’s parking lot at 12th and Main streets.

Lane restriction begins Friday

ANDERSON — On Friday and again on Monday, the northbound lane in the 3700 block of Columbus Avenue will be closed, according to a press release from the City of Anderson Engineering Department.

Hayden Brumett Construction will be repairing the brick facade to a residence in the area.

Tea Party Patriots to meet tonight

ANDERSON — The Madison County Tea Party Patriots will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the FOP Lodge, 2614 Mounds Road, Anderson.

Speaking will be David Stochdale (R) candidate for US Congress 5th district, his opponent is Suasn Brooks. Also Diane Finney will present a Chronological History of Education beginning with the intrusion of the Federal Government in our education system. Doors open at 6 p.m., meeting starts 6:30 p.m.

Housing Authority office closed Friday

ANDERSON — The Anderson Housing Authority Administrative Office will be closed Friday for an all-day staff retreat.

The office will reopen Monday morning.

Alleged abuse in plot ruled inadmissible

INDIANAPOLIS — A prosecutor says jurors likely won’t hear an Indianapolis woman’s claim that her boyfriend coerced her into a scheme that led to an explosion that killed two people and damaged more than 30 homes.

Marion County Deputy Prosecutor Denise Robinson said after a hearing Wednesday that Monserrate Shirley’s allegations of abuse likely won’t be admissible at her trial.

Shirley, Mark Leonard, and his brother Bob Leonard are charged with murder and arson in the Nov. 10 blast on the south side of Indianapolis.
