Community Briefs: Feb. 5

PENDLETON — Indiana author Dale Glenn will discuss his latest novel “Purcell Station” at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.

In the novel, a 12-year-old resident of Purcell Station, Ind., stumbles upon something he shouldn’t see, and the town he has always known is changed forever. That’s when he has secrets to share. And things begin to happen. The story is a heartwarming, coming-of-age story of 1950s’ innocence, compassion and redemption.

The reception will be held at 10 a.m. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served. RSVPs are appreciated.

Mainstage auditions Saturday, Sunday

ANDERSON -- Anderson’s Mainstage Theatre (AMT) will conduct auditions for its 2014 production of “9 to 5: The Musical” from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church, 10th and Jackson streets, and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Mainstage Theatre, 124 W. Ninth St.

Performance dates are: April 3,4,5,11,12 and 13 and all casting done from auditions.

All should come prepared to display vocal range and speaking voice. Candidates may use their own music and monologue or may read from the script.

Characters are described as “18 years older” (could be 16 depending on looks for ensemble) and the cast size will be from 11 to 20.

Rehearsals begin Monday, Feb. 24, and typically are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

As show time nears rehearsals may go past 8:30 Please note, closer to show time there will be times rehearsal will go past 8:30 p.m. Some choreography days will be on Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m.

A rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions.

Red Hatters meet at Perkins

ANDERSON -- The February meeting of the WOW Red Hatters of Madison County will be Saturday at Perkins Restaurant, 5033 S. Scatterfield Road. Lunch will be at 11 a.m.
