Williams receives volunteer honor
ANDERSON — Katie Williams has been honored as the 2013 Volunteer of the Year by the Hoosier Environmental Council.
Williams received the organization’s award during a ceremony at the Hoosier Environmental Council’s sixth annual Greening the Statehouse forum. The event is one of the largest gatherings of environmental advocates from around the state.
Williams, who has a PhD in communication and culture from Indiana, is a volunteer for the Hoosier Environmental Council and engages in public health policy and legislative research for a state legislator.
“Katie embodies what it means to be an active and engaged green-minded citizen,” said Kim Ferarro, water and agriculture policy director for the Hoosier Environmental Council. “It is easy to complain about our lack of sufficient progress in addressing the environmental challenges we face – it’s not so easy to get out there and do something meaningful about it. By selflessly volunteering countless hours to help HEC empower Hoosiers impacted by CAFOs, that’s exactly what Katie has done.”
