Ind. 128 to be repaired east of Frankton
FRANKTON —The Indiana Department of Transportation is ready to resurface Ind. 128 to seal the pavement from moisture and promote driver safety.
The 5.6-mile surface treatment operation will begin at 11th Street in Frankton and end at Ind. 128’s intersection with Ind. 9. Brooks Construction, the state’s prime contractor for the $574,124 project, placed construction signs this week.
Ind. 38 to be repaved in Madison County
ANDERSON — The Indiana Department of Transportation will repair and repave Ind. 109 in Madison County from Markleville to the south side of Anderson.
Asphalt patching will begin Monday on the section of Ind. 109 between Ind. 38 and a terminus just south of Interstate 69. Flaggers will be present to direct drivers, who might experience delays. Work will continue through mid May.
Daleville kindergarten roundup set
DALEVILLE — Daleville Elementary School will host roundup Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the gym for all incoming kindergarten students. Children must be 5 year of age by Aug. 1.
Parents should bring official birth certificate; social security number; two proofs of residency; and complete immunization record. Applications will be available for those kindergarten students who live out of district and were not part of the first lottery.
Smith leaving Pence to start new firm
INDIANAPOLIS — One of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence’s closest confidants announced Wednesday he is leaving the Statehouse to start a political consulting firm.
Bill Smith, who is from Elwood, announced he would leave his job as Pence’s chief of staff after 16 months, effective May 9. Smith has been a top aide to Pence since the Republican was first elected to Congress in 2000.
Twins drown days after parents marry
AURORA — Authorities say twin 2-year-old girls who wandered away from their southeastern Indiana home drowned in rainwater atop a neighbor’s swimming pool cover.
They identified the girls Wednesday as Jocelyn and Shaylyn Spurlock of Aurora.
The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department says the girls were reported missing Tuesday evening and found more than an hour later by a neighbor and firefighter.
Neighbors said the girls were flower girls in their parents’ wedding Saturday.
