Tea Party hosts meet and greet

CHESTERFIELD — The Tea Party of Madison County will host a meet-and-greet for all primary candidates from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Millcreek Community Center, 403 Main St. This event is for all political parties.

There will be hot dogs, chips and soft drinks available. There will be a drawing for two children’s bicycles. The child must be present to win.

Tour de Pendleton set for Saturday

PENDLETON — The South Madison Youth Commission will present the Tour de Pendleton 2014 biking event on Saturday.

The 10-mile biking event is open to ages 13 and up.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at Pendleton Heights High School. The route will be from PHHS to Maple Ridge Elementary School and back. There will be a water stop at Maple Ridge. The first 60 riders to sign up (and pay) will receive a T-shirt. All participants will receive a water bottle and certificate of participation.

Cost is $15 per rider and proceeds benefit the SMYC grant fund.

Milton-Madison Bridge to reopen

MADISON — A new Ohio River bridge is set to reopen to traffic by tonight after a more than month-long closure forced motorists to travel 25 miles to the nearest alternate bridge in southeast Indiana, the Indiana Department of Transportation said Wednesday.

The Milton-Madison Bridge temporarily closed on March 11 to allow crews to finish a phase of construction along the half-mile-long span that connects Madison, Ind., and Milton, Ky. The bridge is twice as wide as the old bridge it replaced.

Gary man charged in shop owner’s death

FORT WAYNE — Authorities say tips from the public have led to the arrest of a Gary man in connection with the fatal shooting of a Fort Wayne tobacco store owner during a robbery.
