Roosevelt-Kennedy Club meeting set

ANDERSON — The Roosevelt-Kennedy Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at headquarters off Eighth Street.

All past and current members are urged to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Crime Watch meeting set for Thursday

ANDERSON -- The next Southside Crime Watch District 1 meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at East Lynn Christian Church, 522 E. 53rd St.

Any southside neighborhood resident or interested party is invited to attend. Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month through November.

Residents urged to walk at Jackson Park

ANDERSON — Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 a.m. residents are encouraged to walk at Jackson Park, located at the corner of Raible Avenue and West 22nd Street.

There will be free blood pressure checks and free bottled water.

Sponsors are Councilman John T. Bostic Jr., the Impact Center, the Martin Luther King Commission and the Urban League of Madison County.

Mounds Lake Reservoir talks scheduled

ANDERSON — The Anderson Noon Kiwanis and Anderson Noon Lions Club will continue with a series of programs relating to the proposed Mounds Lake Reservoir.

Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith will speak Thursday. Tom Bannon of the Anderson/Madison County Visitors and Convention Bureau will speak on Thursday, June 27.

Meetings are at the First United Methodist Church, 1215 Jackson St., from noon to 1 p.m. Lunch is served for $7. The public is invited to attend.

Trooper shot, suspect dead in shootout

WASHINGTON — A shootout between an Indiana trooper and a man robbing a southwestern Indiana gun shop left the suspect dead and the trooper with non-life threatening injuries.

Indiana State Police say Trooper Jared Lents was responding to an armed robbery Monday afternoon at the Black Oak Armaments gun shop in Montgomery, about 50 miles northeast of Evansville.

Lents was shot several times and was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Sgt. Curt Durnil says the suspect died at the scene from Lents' gunfire.
