---- — First Presbyterian holding VBS

ANDERSON — "Everywhere Fun Fair" is the theme for First Presbyterian’s Vacation Bible school this year. Beginning Monday, July 15, and running through Friday from 2 to 4:30 p.m., it’s a global celebration with the look and feel of a world’s fair. Children will make friends with neighbors around the world and discover that God’s love can be found everywhere, including their own neighborhoods.

This year the church is partnering with the Church Upon the Rock congregation. Children K-6 are welcome for Vacation Bible School at First Presbyterian, 230 W. Ninth St.

Tabor Church invites children to Kingdom Rock

DALEVILLE — A summer kids’ event called "Kingdom Rock" will be hosted by Tabor Church at the Daleville Elementary School 4-H Pavilion from July 23-26. At Kingdom Rock, kids participate in Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and dig into treats, experience Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them to stand strong, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they’ll take home and play with all summer long.

Each day concludes with Fanfare Finale — a celebration that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned. Kids at Kingdom Rock will join a missions effort, raising funds for Mahalia Pa Maisha, a ministry in Kenya, Africa. Kingdom Rock is for kids age 4 through 11 and will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. each day.

Mote to be in concert in Matthews

MATTHEWS — Epworth United Methodist Church, 105 W. Eighth St., will host Gordon Mote in concert on Friday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m.

Mote, blind from birth, is an acclaimed pianist and vocalist first exposed to gospel music fans on the Gaither Homecoming tours. The Academy of Country Music recently recognized Mote as the Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year for 2009 and 2011. He has performed on stage with Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Trace Adkins, Kenny Chesney and many others.

Fellowship service today at New Life Deliverance

ANDERSON — New Life Deliverance Temple, 5019 Columbus Ave., will have a fellowship service at 6 p.m. today.

Guest speaker will be Apostle Titus Taylor of Indianapolis. Elder La Tasha C. Jordan is the host pastor.

Commissioning service at St. Matthew

ANDERSON — Kathy Poffenbarger will be commissioned at the 9:30 a.m. worship service at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 1512 N. Madison Ave.

She will be leaving Aug. 5 for Chiang Rai, Thailand, where she will be teaching English language classes.

The Rev. Mark Helm will conduct the service and a pitch-in dinner will follow in Wesley Hall. Curtis Wilkens will be guest soloist and pianist will be Janet Casterline.

The Third Thursday Luncheon will be July 18 at noon in Wesley Hall. Guest speaker will be Neal Kirby, director of the Christian Center. Each attendee is asked to bring a dish to pass.

Friends & Family Service at New Life Church

ANDERSON — New Life Apostolic Church, 2230 Jefferson St., will celebrate its Friends & Family Service on Sunday, July 21, at 11:30 a.m.

This year's theme is "Reaching the world through the ministry of reconciliation," from 2 Corinthians 5:18.

New Horizons hosts New Hope benefit concert

ANDERSON — New Hope United Methodist Church will present a benefit concert, featuring its pastor, the Rev. Sharon A. White, along with a community choir, at 6 p.m. Sunday at New Horizon United Methodist Church, 611 E. 53rd St.

All participants are volunteering for this effort. Ten percent of the offering will go to the Gospel Highlights Annual Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner.

Summer services at Park Place Church

ANDERSON — Pastor Joshua Weiger will be preaching “A Passion for People” in the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. Sunday school for all ages is at 9 a.m.; The Gathering at 10 a.m.

From 6 to 7:15 p.m., Coffee House Worship is held in the Park Place Community Center, Room 13. Coffee House Worship is a relaxed community worship experience with friends and warm drinks as we worship together.

Rogers, Dicks guests at Central service

ANDERSON — Central Christian Church will welcome guest minister the Rev. Jim Rogers to the pulpit on Sunday. Central's lay pastor, Jim Millikan, will be assisting with the 10 a.m. worship service.

Vocal guests will be Las Vegas, Nev., residents Jamie and Luci Dick along with their son Trevor. Jamie is the son of Central Board of Elders member Judy Dick. Jamie and Luci both work in ministry and entertainment. Among other professional endeavors, Jamie is director of music ministry at Faith Community Lutheran Church and Luci is an opera performer at The Venetian Hotel. Both are graduates of Butler University.
