---- — 'Young Frankenstein' auditions begin today

ANDERSON — Auditions are being held today and Sunday for the Anderson's Mainstage Theatre production of "Young Frankenstein." They will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Central Christian Church, 10th and Jackson streets.

Rehearsals begin Aug. 6 with performance in mid-September. The directors are seeking a group of 11-20 (many featured roles) of people “18 years and older.” Those auditioning should prepare to give a short, comic monologue and sing 16 bars of any song that shows their range and dynamic ability. Fundraiser car wash location changed

ANDERSON — Ernie’s Heart Pet Food Pantry, Attention 2 Detail and Family Video will host a fundraiser car wash for the Madison County Humane Society on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Family Video, 615 Scatterfield Road Anderson.

Funds raised will go toward the $800 needed by the MCHS for emergency medical treatment to rid the shelter of the fungal infection ringworm. To volunteer, or to make a monetary donation for the fundraiser or to Ernie’s Heart Pet Food Pantry, call Jan Smith at 425-5407.

Markleville Jamboree Baking Contest

MARKLEVILLE — Entries for the Markleville Jamboree Baking Contest need to be submitted by noon on Saturday, Aug. 3 to the Markleville Town Hall, 8 S. State St.

Judging will take place at that time and winners will be announced at 5 p.m. at the Jamboree. Categories include homemade pies, homemade cakes and homemade Candies. There is also a junior bakers category for those 8 years old and under and for 9-15-year-olds. Juniors can submit any kind of homemade baked good.

Academy Registration set for today

ANDERSON — Academy Registration for the Anderson Young Ballet Theatre will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at 29 Dillion St., Anderson (in the old Big Four Train station on the tracks).

Ther academy is accepting dancers, both male and female, beginning at age 3, who must be potty-trained, through age 18. No experience necessary. Registration forms and schedules can be found at www.andersonyoungballet.org. Kinney Dancewear will be on site with all required dance wear until 4 p.m. for your convenience.

Legion serving up rocky mountain oysters

CHESTERFIELD — The American Legion Riders 408 will have a rocky mountain oyster dinner on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. at the post at 5100 Mounds Road, Chesterfield.

Cost is $6 for a dinner. Sloppy joes will also be available for $5.

Cross Roads to hold Big Tent Revival

ANDERSON — Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 2000 N. Scatterfield Road, Anderson, will have an old-fashioned Big Tent Revival today and Sunday.

Children’s Day will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today with pony rides and a petting zoo. This for children kindergarten through fifth grade. Revival services will be held at 6 p.m. today and 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. An all-church picnic will be held at noon Sunday. For more information call 642-8061.
