CASA seeks volunteers

ANDERSON — East Central Indiana Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will begin a child advocacy summer training class on June 30.

The training will be held in the third floor conference room at the Citizens Plaza Key Bank Building. The summer training class will include independent study, classroom education and courtroom observation time. Volunteers must be a minimum age of 21 years, and a full police and child welfare background check will be done on each potential volunteer.

CASA volunteers are the voice in the court for abused and neglected children. A CASA volunteer thoroughly examines a child’s case and makes recommendations to the Judge. Volunteers are trained to advocate, evaluate, and monitor a child’s case with respect to what is in the best interest of the child.

There is a great need for volunteers in Madison County. Presently Madison County needs approximately 130 new volunteer advocates to assign to children on a waiting list.

Information: Traci Barber, (765) 649-7215 or tbarber@madisoncounty.in.gov.
