Main Street bridge closes June 22

ANDERSON —The Main Street bridge that spans Interstate 69 on the south side of Anderson will close for demolition and reconstruction in two weeks. Motorists are advised to plan now for alternate routes around the bridge site.

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to place barricades on either side of the bridge at 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. The closure will be in effect for 75 calendar days.

Housing Authority meeting rescheduled

ANDERSON — The June meeting of the Anderson Housing Authority Board of Commissioners has been rescheduled to Tuesday, June 24, at noon in the Anderson Housing Authority Administrative Office, 528 W. 11th St., due to a scheduling conflict. The original meeting date was Wednesday, June 25.

Crow causes 30-minute outage

ANDERSON — A giant crow shorted a crosswire and left more than 1,400 people without power on the southeast side of Anderson at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Anderson Light & Power Director Tony Pochard said they are seeing a large number of animal-related accidents this spring, which he said could be blamed on the long winter.

The outage lasted 31 minutes. Pochard credited his workers with a fast response time. He said being able to easily identify the outage area helped get power back quickly.

Fort Wayne wins $33 million in federal funding

FORT WAYNE — Fort Wayne will receive $33 million in federal funding for future development.

Mayor Tom Henry announced Wednesday the funding will come from the Treasury Department's New Markets Tax Credits, which are intended to encourage economic development in low-income areas. The city will sell the tax credits to investors who can use them against their federal income taxes.

Prosecutors: Miami County shooting death justified

PERU — Prosecutors won't charge a northern Indiana man who they say shot and killed an intruder who attacked him with a baseball bat.
