Some want GE sign to remain in Fort Wayne
FORT WAYNE — General Electric Co. is leaving Fort Wayne, but its iconic GE sign southwest of downtown may not.
GE spokesman Matt Conkrite said no final decision has been made on the sign's fate. He says officials at the company's Louisville, Kentucky, plant have asked about relocating the sign. Some in Fort Wayne believe it should remain in the city, calling it a landmark. City Councilman Geoff Paddock said he's talked with a city planner about what steps could be taken to preserve the sign.
