TRC to offer early ed services

ANDERSON — Transition Resources Corporation will begin offering full-day early education services beginning July 7. The hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. When the new Head Start program year begins Sept. 2, the children in full-day services will receive Head Start services four hours per day and before- and after-care during the remaining hours. Child Care Development Fund vouchers may be used to pay for extended care.

To qualify for Head Start services, children must be 3 years of age and under age 5 by Aug. 1. Families must meet federal poverty guidelines. Proof of the child’s birth and family income verification are needed to apply. For questions or to schedule an appointment for application, call Shantal Thompson or Shelly Truxall at 649-9905. Head Start is at 812 W. 13th St.

Head Start is a no-cost federally funded comprehensive early childhood education program serving low-income children and families.

Boy, 2, dies in apparent drowning

KOKOMO — Central Indiana police say a 2-year-old Kokomo boy died in an apparent drowning after falling into his family’s swimming pool.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Department says Daymian Newell wasn’t breathing when medics arrived Monday at the family’s home. He was later pronounced dead at a Kokomo hospital.

Supplier inks lease for business park

JEFFERSONVILE — Southern Indiana officials say an auto supplier that’s signed a lease to move into a business park is expected to bring about 250 new jobs to Jeffersonville this summer.

America Place Business Park officials did not disclose the new lease holder’s name during Monday’s announcement. But America Place managing director Debbie Smith says it’s an automotive supplier and Fortune 500 company.

Man is stricken during water race, dies

INDIANAPOLIS — A friend of a central Indiana man who died while competing in a water race at Indianapolis’ Eagle Creek Park says he was an avid swimmer and cyclist.
