ANDERSON, Ind. — A compilation of local and state news as published in the Thursday edition of The Herald Bulletin.

Event raising money for autism research

ANDERSON — A replica of the command chair from the original “Star Trek” series will be available at the Mounds Mall 10 area to have photos taken with Friday and Saturday. “Star Trek Into Darkness” premieres Friday at the theater complex. All proceeds benefit Autism Research Institute.

Mark Williams and Roy Jackson, charter members of USS Endeavour, the local Star Trek fan club, constructed the chair which has been used before for fundraising. Photo times are 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Cost is $5 or $10 for photos printed on site.

Brown Township meeting Sunday

GREENFIELD — Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m., the Hancock County Historical Society, located at the Chapel in the Park, 28 North Apple St., Greenfield, will host a roundtable discussion on the History of Brown Township. Brown Township is located on the northeast side of Hancock County and includes the towns of Shirley, Wilkinson, Nashville, Warrington and Willow Branch.

This free event is open to anyone who has an interest in the history of the township or the families and communities that once lived there.

   

Household items giveaway Saturday

ANDERSON — New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 2318 Sheridan St., will have its monthly giveaway of household items, cleaning supplies and clothing from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Items available until all are gone.

Garden club sets spring plant sale

ALEXANDRIA — SmallTown Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon in Building 2, Beulah Park.

There will be perennials, annuals, shrubs, vegetable plants, herbs and miscellaneous items.

Proceeds are used to help provide flowering plants at the park entrance and at the Community Center. The club also provides monetary donations to local philanthropic organizations.
