Climate change Triad meeting topic
ANDERSON — Triad will hold a meeting about how climate change and how it might be endangering the future of our world at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the theater area of Mounds Mall.
Paul Severance, the founder of United Senior Action, will make a presentation that will show damages across the U.S. and world.
Car show Saturday in Muncie
MUNCIE — The Muncie Southside High School Band Boosters will host its 12th annual Spirit of the Run Car Show from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the school, 1601 E. 26th St. A blood drive will be conducted from 3 to 7 p.m. at the football field.
The first 125 cars will receive dash plaques; the top 50 will receive trophies; first 50 pre-entry receive T-shirts. Cost is $8 to pre-enter or $10 day of show.
Alex Breakfast Club today
ALEXANDRIA — The Alexandria Monroe Chamber of Commerce will host its July Breakfast Club at 7:30 a.m. today at the Alexandria Eagles 1771 Lodge, corner of Indiana 9 and 28.
Scheduled every other month, the Breakfast Club is a venue to network and find out what’s happening around the Alexandria community.
Each breakfast features a short program by a corporate sponsor geared toward small businesses and a presentation by a nonprofit sponsor.
Everyone in attendance will also have the opportunity to talk about their business or organization with community announcements (announcements cost $1, limited to 30 seconds, one announcement per company).
The breakfast is free to all of the current Chamber members (non-members $5).
The breakfast is provided by Rachel’s Hi Way Cafe. The event is open to the public.
Antique car display on Saturday
ANDERSON — An antique car display will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Frazier’s Dairy Maid, 3311 Main St.
On Sunday, in celebration of National Ice Cream day, Frazier’s will serve free ice cream cones from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Men jailed after sexual conduct in parks
JEFFERSONVILLE — Six arrests were made during two details performed by area Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers to target those soliciting sexual favors.
Four men were arrested in less than three hours Friday in Clark State Forest, and two men were arrested near Falls of the Ohio State Park a week ago.
All of the offenders were arrested on preliminary charges of public indecency, a class C misdemeanor.
Gary opens 4 cooling centers for residents
GARY — The city of Gary has opened four cooling centers for residents seeking relief from the heat and humidity.
The city also is asking that people check on their neighbors, particularly the elderly, to make sure they are doing all right.
As of noon Central time, the National Weather Service was reporting the temperature in Gary was 86 with 62 percent humidity. In Shelbyville, 30 miles southeast of Indianapolis, it was 92 at 1 p.m. Eastern time.
3-year-old boy dies after fall into lake
BIRDSEYE — Authorities say a 3-year-old boy died after apparently falling from a boat into a southern Indiana lake.
State conservation officers say Jayce Stallings from the Scott County community of Deputy had been wearing a lifejacket while swimming in Patoka Lake as several boats were anchored together. Those with the boy told officers that his lifejacket had been taken off inside the boat for him to warm up and that he was last seen sitting on a cooler along the boat’s edge.
