Safe Sitter class offered Aug. 2
ANDERSON — St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital is offering a Safe Sitter class on Friday, Aug. 2. Safe Sitter is a medically accurate baby-sitting preparation program designed for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. This nationally recognized program teaches sitters how to have fun with children, to recognize a medical emergency and to respond appropriately.
Safe Sitter participants learn safety and security precautions, such as what to do if a stranger comes to the door, and when and how to call for help. They receive information on child development and age-appropriate activities. They also learn about the business aspects of baby-sitting.
The cost is $40, which includes learning materials for the class and a backpack of supplies. Enrollment is limited. The class runs from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students should bring a sandwich for lunch. Snacks and beverages are provided. Parents may enroll their children in the class by calling St.Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital Community Education Department at 646-8669.
Gruenewald sets last summer luncheon
ANDERSON — The Gruenewald House, 626 Main St., Anderson, hosts its last Something Special Luncheon, “Celebrate Summer,” for the season on Friday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
Guest servers are local attorney Ron McNabney; Gayle Jones-Burris of the Paramount Theater; Doug Zook with the City of Anderson, and Neal Kirby, executive director of The Christian Center. Classical Guitarist Will Smith will provide music.
The menu includes a variety of summer delights. Reservations are required. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. Call 648-6875 for reservations.
Roosevelt breakfast set for Wednesday
ANDERSON —The former students of Roosevelt School will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. at Perkins Restaurant the last Wednesday of the month. The next breakfast is Wednesday, July 31.
Back to School Kickoff is Aug. 3
ANDERSON — A Back to School Kickoff will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church, 5403 Kingston Ave.
The free event will include haircuts, face painting and crafts, games and a bounce house, cotton candy and popcorn, along with school supplies. A cookout will take place from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m. For more information call 644-4171.
Back-to-school haircuts are Aug. 5
ANDERSON — The third annual free Back-to-School Haircuts will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Anderson Zion Family Life Center, 2008 Rev. J.T. Menifee St., Anderson.
A participant’s hair must be clean. Barbers participating include Divine Stylez-n-Cutz, Culture Shop, Davis Unique Salon, and Better Days. Canned goods are being collected.
Vendors sought for craft show
ANDERSON —The annual Christmas Gift & Craft Show is planned for Friday through Sunday, Dec. 6-8, at Mounds Mall. Crafters, home businesses, churches, schools, and civic groups are invited to participate and make their products and services available to the public. Each booth space is approximately 8’ x 10’ or longer and narrower, as space allows. Booths rent for $55 for the three-day sale and open during regular Mall holiday hours.
