WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University received 6,500 donations totaling $7.5 million during its inaugural Day of Giving.
The university said donations in the grassroots 24-hour fundraising effort Wednesday ranged from $10 to more than $1 million. The school says donors during the online event included longtime benefactors along with students, staff and recent graduates. The online event drew contributors from 15 countries and all 50 states.
Frank and Karen Wolfsheimer of Micanopy, Fla., donated $1 million to the Department of Biological Science, saying they hope the gift can be used to fund a professorship.
The university had set a goal of raising $2.5 million during the day.
