Second Harvest sets 'Hunger Bowl XVIII'

MUNCIE — "Hunger Bowl XVIII," a night of music, dancing and tailgate food, will be held May 31 at 6 p.m. at the Horizon Convention Center. The event is a fundraiser for Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana.

Cost for the event is $65 per person. For more information about being a sponsor, donating an auction item, or to make a reservation, call Sherri at (765) 287-8698, ext.116.

Central Indiana high school probes bullying report

FRANKFORT — Indiana State Police are investigating reports of bullying at a school that might involve sexual battery. Sgt. Kim Riley said Tuesday the investigation involves potential incidents of "sexual battery" at Clinton Prairie High School.

Superintendent Chris Sampson said the freshman who was the target of the bullying initially said two seniors pinned him down in a locker room last week and poked him in the ribs and that he remained fully clothed throughout the incident. However, Sampson says additional information from the freshman and two student witnesses indicates three attacks have occurred since spring break.

Sampson says two seniors implicated in the attacks were on track to graduate but now are "suspended pending expulsion."

Contamination delays US 40 upgrade in Brazil

BRAZIL — A highway upgrade in a western Indiana city has been delayed two months by contamination from a former dry-cleaning business.

Indiana Department of Transportation spokeswoman Debbie Calder says construction work had been set to begin in mid-April along U.S. 40 through Brazil, but that work is now scheduled to start June 2.

Nationwide alert issued for Gary slaying suspect

GARY — A Gary police spokeswoman says authorities have issued a nationwide alert for a slaying suspect.

Cpl. Gabrielle King said Tuesday that 21-year-old Mark Cherry of Lake Station man is considered dangerous.

The Times of Munster reported Cherry is charged with murder in what is believed to have been a gunbattle over drugs in Gary. Cherry was wounded in the gunfight in which 22-year-old Rolando A. Correa of Gary was killed.
