Historic building razed after collapse

WARREN — Authorities in the northeastern Indiana town of Warren have torn down a historic downtown building after it collapsed moments after the end of a weekend parade.

The roof of the building that formerly housed Gene’s Market caved in first and the brick facade tumbled onto the street where the parade had passed just minutes earlier.

Warren Town Marshal Dennis Spitler said bystanders reported hearing heard cracking and popping that prompted them to move away from the building before the collapse. Two people suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
