Genealogy Class offered Monday

ANDERSON —  The Genealogy Department of the Madison County Historical Society will hold a class at 9:30 a.m. on Monday in the Bowman Room at the History Center, 11 W. 11th St., Anderson.

Genealogists Bill Upperman and Lu Lawler will conduct a “Beginning Genealogy” class for those who would love to know more about their family history, but need a little help getting started.

The class is free to the public. Call 683-0052 with questions.

Meeting dates have been canceled

PENDLETON —  The Historic Preservation Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday and the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 16 have been canceled due to lack of business.

Fresh produce giveaway, Tuesday

ANDERSON —  The Madison County Community Health Center in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank will sponsor a fresh produce giveaway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at 1547 Ohio Ave., Anderson.

Residents are asked to bring a bag to carry the food.

ISP releases dates for 2013 summer youth camps

PENDLETON — The Indiana State Police announced its 2013 summer youth camp schedules.

According to a press release from State Police spokesman John Bowling, the camps for grades 5-12 will take place at college campuses around the state, including two camps to be held at Anderson University in July.

Anderson will host the Respect for Law Camp for 5-6 graders from July 11-13, which costs $125, and the Lions Law Camp for 7-8 graders from July 10-13, which costs $140. Applications are available now online at www.trooper.com.

Former Elwood parks official yet to surrender

ELWOOD — A warrant is still out for the arrest of former Parks Department superintendent Dan Nance.

As of Friday, Nance had still not turned himself in to authorities, said Elwood Police Chief Sam Hanna. Nance faces a charge of failure to deposit public funds, a Class B felony. His bond has been set at $20,000.

Attempts to contact Hanna’s attorney Scott Barnhart have been unsuccessful.

District 3 Crime Watch meeting

ANDERSON —  There will be a Crime Watch meeting for District 3 on Monday at 6 p.m. in the basement of Fifth Street Methodist Church, Fifth and Locust streets, Anderson.

Anyone who wants to be involved with their local crime watch group is invited to attend. Crime Watch is a volunteer organization that focuses on the needs and concerns of residents for making their neighborhoods a safe and clean area to live and work.
