Madison Co. Tea Party meets July 11
ALEXANDRIA -- The next Madison County Tea Party Meeting will feature Andrew Phipps, an inspirational speaker, educator, radio-television broadcaster, civic and political leader, who will discuss the need for term limits. Videos and open discussion will follow, and a salute to The Declaration of Independence will close the meeting.
This meeting of the North Madison County Tea Party will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Emery Lee Auditorium at Beulah Park in Alexandria. The public is invited.

MOB registration Thursday
ANDERSON -- Merchants Older Buddies (MOB) registration will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Park Place Community Center, 802 E. Fifth Street. Use the east entrance.
The registration offers discounts to those 60 years and older at various area merchants for a one-time fee of $4. For more information call Haskell Counts at 643-8843.
Adams Twp. Advisory board meets Tuesday
MARKLEVILLE -- The Adams Township Advisory Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Adams Markleville Fire Station, 7457 South 200 East. The budget and general business will be on the agenda.
Annual plantsale July 22
ALEXANDRIA -- Potted houseplants, perennials and bulbs will be sold in the Extension Homemaker booth located in the Madison County 4-H Fair Commercial Building. Exhibit hours are from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 22 to Saturday, July 27. Proceeds are used to fund community service projects conducted throughout the year by the Extension Homemakers.
Plants are donated by local Extension Homemaker members and community vendors.
Ice cream social is July 21
MATTHEWS -- Epworth United Methodist Church, 105 W. Eighth St, Matthews, will be host its annual Old-fashioned Community Ice Cream Social from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21.
A variety of homemade ice cream and desserts as well as chili dogs, nachos, and other food items will be served. Indoor seating is available for those who prefer air-conditioned comfort.
Musical entertainment will be provided by “Sounds of Home,” a quartet blending the harmonies of Jerry and Judy Cole and Rita and Roger Wessel with traditional folk instruments featuring gospel and folk songs across several eras of music. There is no charge for the event, but free will donations will be gratefully accepted for the benefit of the youth group to assist with church camp expenses.
Food auctionbenefits scholarship
ALEXANDRIA -- Homemade cookies, candies, cakes and canned goods will be sold at auction on Tuesday, July 23rd at 6:00 p.m. in the 4-H Farm Bureau Building at the 4-H fairgrounds in Alexandria.
Gary Simmons will auction off homemade food products made by local Extension Homemaker members for exhibit competition. 4-H Food Champion projects will also be auctioned off in this year’s sale.
Profits from the 4-H foods will go to the 4-H Association.Proceeds are used for a Lula Boone Scholarship presented to a graduating high school senior each spring.
