Junior Research Grants available
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Academy of Science has Junior Research Grants available for Indiana high school students in grades 9-12.

Proposal guidelines can be found at indianaacademyofscience.org. The maximum grant support is $300. The deadline for submission is Oct. 25. Applicants and their teachers will be informed by email of the final decision. Decisions will be made by mid-December.
INDOT to close Ind. 28 for repairs
TIPTON COUNTY — The Indiana Department of Transportation has scheduled the closure of Indiana 28 near Hobbs in Tipton County next week to enable Norfolk Southern to make repairs at a rail crossing.
The detour will route motorists via Ind. 213, Ind. 26 and Ind. 19 and will begin at 8 a.m. Monday and is anticipated to continue through early Friday afternoon. Local residents will be able to reach their homes from either side of the east-west highway rail site.
Arts organizations awarded grants
ANDERSON — Madison County arts organizations were awarded $36,000 of the $157,170 available for Indiana Art Commission region five arts partner grant awards. Region five includes 12 counties in East Central Indiana: Adams, Blackford, Delaware, Fayette, Grant, Henry, Jay, Madison, Randolph, Rush, Union, and Wayne. The fiscal grant year began July 1.
The Anderson Center for the Arts (organizational support) received $10,000; Anderson Symphony Orchestra (organizational support) $10,000; Anderson Young Ballet Theatre (organizational support) $6,000; Central Indiana Powwow (Andersontown Powwow & Indian Market) $5,000; and Anderson Area Children’s Choir $5,000.
These grants are made possible by appropriated funds from the Indiana State legislature in conjunction with the National Endowment for the Arts.
Crime Stoppers meeting Tuesday
ANDERSON — The Board of Directors for the Anderson Area Crimestoppers will have its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Anderson Police Department, 1040 Main St., Anderson.
Crimestoppers is a national organization with an established chapter in Anderson that serves as a tool to assist law enforcement in solving crimes and identifying the criminal elements in the community. Prayer rally set for Thursday at Southern Heights
ANDERSON — Southern Heights Christian Church, 5401 S. Madison Ave., will hold a prayer time around the flag pole at 10 a.m. Thursday. This time of prayer is for the protection and safety of our schools. This prayer rally is open to the community.

73rd Street closed Tuesday and Wednesday
ANDERSON — 73rd Street between Accelerator Drive and Layton Road will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday as Poindexter Excavating Inc., repairs the road, according to a press release from the City of Anderson Engineering Department.
