ACS to host informational session
ANDERSON — Anderson Community Schools invites the public to attend an informational session with the Indiana Department of Education consultants and IN*Source regarding the academic success of special education students in a general education setting.
The public forum, for parents of students with disabilities and community partners, will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Tanglewood Conference Center, 3522 E. 10th St.
Solidarity Labor Council picnic Monday
ALEXANDRIA — The annual Labor Day Picnic and Car Cruise-in is planned Monday at Beulah Park in Alexandria.
Free food, entertainment, and a craft show are planned. Cars will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Homemade items, crafts and rummagers are invited to set up their own tables for $10 on a first-come, first-served basis.

United Way kickoff event Sept. 17
ANDERSON — The community is invited to help launch this year’s United Way campaign by lending your talent and enthusiasm to United Way of Madison County’s 2013 “Be the ONE” Campaign Kick-Off and Video Shoot event.
The kick-off, hosted by Anderson Rotary, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Town Center Park, across from The Paramount Theatre.

Libraries closing for Labor Day holiday
MADISON COUNTY — The Elwood Public Library, Frankton Community Library and the Ralph E. Hazelbaker Library in Summitville will be closed Saturday and Monday in observance of Labor Day.
The libraries will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m.
AFD begins MDA collection
