Labor Day closing

ANDERSON — Anderson Public Library will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day. The Main Library will reopen Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., and the Lapel Branch will reopen at 10 a.m.

The library is open every day on the web at www.andersonlibrary.net.

Training classes for hospice volunteers

MUNCIE — Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospice is looking for volunteers interested in sitting with patients, running errands for caregivers and providing emotional support to hospice patients and their families.

A hospice volunteer training class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on consecutive Fridays, Sept. 13 and Sept. 20. Lunch will be provided at both sessions.

Educators invited to explore Minnetrista’s programs

MUNCIE — Preschool, elementary, and middle school teachers, principals, school faculty and staff members are invited to kick-off the school year with a night of socializing at Minnetrista’s Educator Appreciation Night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Mingle with other educators and Minnetrista staff over light food and refreshments; explore Minnetrista’s grounds; and view previews of this year’s upcoming school tours and theater shows. Discover all that Minnetrista has to offer students through informal education, tools, and activities.

Legion to close Monday

ANDERSON — The American Legion Post 127, 4118 Columbus Ave., will be closed on Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 12 meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. that day has been canceled.

Portland girl tried to poison parents

PORTLAND — A 16-year-old eastern Indiana girl has been arrested after allegedly putting ground-up rat poison in her parents' coffee grounds.

The Commercial Review reports the parents of the Portland girl found the poison in the coffee grounds and reported the incident to the Jay County Sheriff's Department.
