Huntsville Road Bridge closed Tuesday

PENDLETON — Huntsville Road is scheduled to close Tuesday for rehabilitation of the 1940s steel truss bridge at Fall Creek, located just west of Indiana 67 between Pendleton and Huntsville. Detour signs are posted.

The contract calls for cleaning, painting and repairing the existing 119-foot steel structure, installing several new cross members and replacing the bridge deck.

The contract completion date is March 31, allowing time for landscaping and tree planting. Current plans are to reopen the bridge for wintertime traffic. Should conditions allow, these plans could change.

Indiana museum plans salute to WWII veterans

VINCENNES — The Indiana Military Museum in southwestern Indiana is hoping more than 100 World War II veterans will show up to be honored at an event there this weekend and to tell their stories to the public.

Museum founder and curator Jim Osborne says other salutes at the Vincennes museum in the past five years have drawn at most about 40 veterans, but he is expecting a much larger group after receiving numerous inquiries to an ad placed in an American Legion magazine.
