Man injured in Fort Wayne beating

FORT WAYNE — A man was in critical condition early Wednesday morning after he was beaten and found on a downtown Fort Wayne street.

Fort Wayne Police were called at 3:56 a.m. to a battery in progress and found the victim lying in the middle of the 100 block of West Wayne Street. Detectives were interviewing witnesses and a potential suspect, according to Anthony. After the suspect is interviewed, the Allen County prosecutor’s office will decide if criminal charges are warranted, he said.

Karen Pence visits Bradley store in Japan

INDIANAPOLIS — The colorful quilted Vera Bradley handbags admired by many Hoosier women are also being sold in Japan. Indiana first lady Karen Pence visited the Vera Bradley store Tuesday at Marui Yurakucho in Ginza, Tokyo’s most famous upmarket shopping, dining and entertainment district, to celebrate the designer’s entrance into Japan.

Pence is accompanying her husband, Gov. Mike Pence, on a trade mission to Japan.

U. of Mich. awards $2.9M Great Lakes grants

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan Water Center has awarded eight research grants totaling nearly $2.9 million to support Great Lakes restoration and protection efforts. The 2-year grants were awarded to teams led by researchers at universities in Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and New York.

Projects include work to support efforts to restore native fish migrations across the Great Lakes basin, assess strategies to restore the health of the Green Bay ecosystem under a changing climate and improve water quality in the western Lake Erie basin.
