Waterman is Angus Association member

ANDERSON — Austin Waterman, Anderson, is a new junior member of the American Angus Association.

Junior members are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in Association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.

The American Angus Association is the largest beef breed association in the world, with more than 25,000 active adult and junior members.

Yorktown teacher earns award

MUNCIE — Holly Stachler, a first-grade educator at Pleasant View Elementary School, Yorktown, has earned the Ball Brothers Foundation’s first Excellence in Teaching Award, an honor that includes a $15,000 grant to her school. Two finalists — Tammy Brant, a physical education teacher at Selma Middle School, and Stephen Merkle, an English teacher at Muncie Central High School — received $1,000 grants to be applied to their classrooms.

Local residents graduate from U of E

EVANSVILLE — The University of Evansville announced that local students graduated during UE’s 155th Commencement on May 4 at the Ford Center in downtown Evansville.

During the ceremony, the University awarded 595 degrees to 579 graduates, the largest graduating class in over a decade.

Local graduates are Troy Taylor of Anderson, who earned a bachelor of science with a major in sport communication, and Nicole Wallen of Markleville, who earned a bachelor of arts with a major in political science and history.

Brandon named Eagle Scout

ANDERSON — Jonathon Preston Brandon of Anderson was presented as an Eagle Scout during an April 14 court of honor at Park Place Church of God.

Brandon is a member of Troop 249, Park Place Church of God. His scoutmaster is Mike Shively. He has been active in scouting for nine years and has earned 30 merit badges.

His position of leadership in scouting includes senior patrol leader, troop guide, instructor, firecrafter ember chief, order of the arrow ceremony team, graduate of White Stag National Youth Leadership Training.

Brandon is the son of Brent and Joani Brandon of Anderson. He is a freshman at Anderson High School and a member of the Honor Society, Skill Bowl team and jazz band. He was a finalist in the Optimist Club Speech Contest.

He attends Park Place Church of God. Brandon raised funds to buy the supplies to build eight picnic tables and three planter benches for the Park Place Community Center and Community Center Garden.
