Library plans holiday workshop
MIDDLETOWN -- Tired of dragging home more and more expensive made-in-China plastic decorations for the holidays? Well, help is on the way at the Middletown Public Library.
Steve Cooper will host a free workshop on “Green Decorating for Christmas” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the library, 780 High St.
Cooper will demonstrate the many decorations, like potpouri, centerpieces, advent wreaths, and other displays a person can make “using readily available materials in nature,” including evergreen, holly, pinecones, and dried fruit.
Other suggestion: using old baskets, teapots, metal cans, etc., for holiday evergreen displays; incorporate regular and battery-operated candles in designs; add holiday oils to add a holiday aroma to your home.
Light refreshments will be served, and each guest will make an orange pomander to take home. Cooper will have materials for sale, such as holiday oils, holly, bittersweet and dried fruit.
