Judge sentences man in bar shooting

SOUTH BEND — A judge has given a two-year prison sentence to a man for firing shots into a crowd outside a South Bend bar during a fight in which his cousin was killed.

The St. Joseph County judge ordered the sentence Tuesday for James Garcia Jr. stemming from the September 2012 melee at the Anchor Inn on the city’s west side.

Authorities say a fight escalated into gunfire and that Cesar Flores was fatally shot. Garcia says he was trying to help his cousin when he got a gun from his car and wounded another man.
