ANDERSON, Ind. — A compilation of local news briefs as published in the Thursday edition of The Herald Bulletin.

NRC to meet May 14 at Mounds Park

ANDERSON  — The Indiana Natural Resources Commission will conduct its next regular bimonthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Mounds State Park in Anderson.

The NRC is an autonomous board that addresses issues pertaining to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Tourism Week celebrated at bureau

ANDERSON — National Tourism Week is being celebrated this week and the Anderson/Madison County Visitors Bureau, 6335 S. Scatterfield Road, will host a Frozen Custard Social on Friday.

Stop by the Visitors Bureau from 2 to 4 p.m. and enjoy a free serving of frozen custard from Culver’s.

K of C chicken fry dates changed

ANDERSON — The Knights of Columbus, 1225 Main St., normally holds a chicken fry on the second Saturday of each month. They have been changed to Saturday, May 18, and Saturday, June 15, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Menards collecting items for MCHS

ANDERSON — In honor of May being National Pet month, Menards home improvement store is serving as a pet donation drop-off site for the Madison County Humane Society.

A drop box will be located near the exit door to collect new and unwrapped pet supplies through May 31.

Muncie May Triathlon on Saturday

MUNCIE — America Multi-Sport has announced the first event of the triathlon season, the Muncie May Triathlon. The event is being presented by American Health Network — Bone & Spine, this Saturday.

It will start and finish at the Prairie Creek Reservoir at Selma. The long course triathlon with distances of 1.5 km swim, 41.2 km bike and 10 km run will also include a Sprint Triathlon/Duathlon, a 5k, and an aquabike on the same day using most of the same courses.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday

ANDERSON — Saturday will be the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive conducted by the National Association of Letter Carriers .

Carriers will collect nonperishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters.

The food is taken back to a postal station, sorted, and then delivered to an area food bank or pantry.
