MUNCIE — Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital Foundation and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital are sponsoring a free cervical screening on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the IU Health Ball Memorial Cancer Center.
Every year around 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the United States. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the third most common cancer for women.
The Pap test is available to women ages 21-65. Women over 30 will also receive an HPV test. Additional requirements include:
u Lack of adequate health insurance
u No Pap test in the last year
u Has not had a total hysterectomy.
Preventative care is important because if cervical cancer is caught in early stages it can be successfully treated. Signs of cervical cancer are often hard to recognize making screening so valuable.
