Lifeguard classes begin Friday at YMCA

ANDERSON — The Anderson Family YMCA is offering American Red Cross lifeguard classes for those ages 15 and older at the YMCA pool, 12th and Jackson streets.

The class is conducted from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. this Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and again Feb. 7-9. You must attend all sessions to become certified. Fees are $150 for YMCA members and $185 for non-members.

Historical Society meeting rescheduled

ANDERSON — Due to inclement weather, the Madison County Historical Society’s Jan. 27 meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m..

The meeting will take place at the Madison County History Center, 11 W. 11th St.

County Historian Steve Jackson and his presentation pertaining to “The 1945 Forest Hills Tragedy” will again be the topic for the night. The presentation is open to the public at no charge.

Container retirees meet Wednesday

ANDERSON — Container Retirees will meet at Perkins Family Restaurant, 5033 S. Scatterfield Road, at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

MSO to host concert Wednesday

MUNCIE — The Muncie Symphony Orchestra and Westminster Village Foundation present the second of three Friends of the Orchestra community concert series at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Village, 5801 W. Bethel Ave., Muncie.

The program is titled “Musical Travels in Time” and will feature MSO outreach trio with music selections reflecting three centuries of string trio evolution.

There is no admission charge.

Stroke awareness presentation at K of C

ANDERSON — A representative from Community Hospital will speak on “Stroke Awareness” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Knights of Columbus, 1225 Main St.
