Alexandria driver killed in Illinois

ALEXANDRIA — An Alexandria man was killed in a crash early Saturday on Interstate 74 near Champaign, Ill.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup identified the driver as William J. Webb, 59. Northrup said Webb was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

State police found a semitrailer truck had gone off the right side of the road past a perimeter fence, through a line of trees and stopped partially submerged in a pond. There were no passengers.

Indy mayor closes government today

INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Greg Ballard announced the closing of City-County Government, except for essential personnel, for today due to dangerously cold temperatures. He is also ordering a two-hour delay for government opening on Wednesday.

Marion County Circuit Court Judge Louis Rosenberg is ordering the closure of Marion County Superior and Circuit Courts for today as well.

Women’s Day to be Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Commission for Women and NAWBO-Indianapolis are hosting a Women’s Day at the Statehouse Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the North Atrium of the Indiana Statehouse, 200 W. Washington St.

Presenters from partner organizations, including NAWBO-Indianapolis and Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, will discuss health-related issues, work-based issues, leadership, care giving and violence against women. There is no charge to attend. To register go to 2014indianawomensday.eventbrite.com.

Purdue to bus students to Wisconsin funeral

WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University announced it will provide charter bus service for students who want to attend funeral services today in Wisconsin for a student fatally shot and stabbed on campus last week.

The university announced Monday it would provide bus service to West Bend, Wis., for the service of 21-year-old Andrew Boldt, who . was killed Jan. 21 in Purdue’s Electrical Engineering Building on the West Lafayette campus.

An innocent plea was entered last week on behalf of 23-year-old Cody Cousins, who has been charged with murder.
