Catching receives WNBA Cares Award

INDIANAPOLIS — Eight-time WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever, one of the game’s longstanding role models on and off the court, was awarded the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm for her contributions to the community in July.

Through her foundation, Catch the Stars, Catchings established the goal to inspire others to give back to the community, promote literacy, fitness and mentoring, while empowering children to achieve their dreams.

As she competes in a 12th WNBA season, Catchings also runs several programs throughout the year, including the “Back to School Celebration,” which provides free backpacks and supplies to more than 600 students. In recognition of her efforts, the WNBA and State Farm are donating $5,000 to the Catch the Stars Foundation.

The Community Assist Award is given monthly during the season to the player who best reflects the WNBA’s passion to make a difference in the community.
