---- — Alex Prayer Walk set for Saturday

ALEXANDRIA -- A citywide Prayer Walk will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Alexandria. All area churches are welcome and all will meet shortly before 10 a.m. at the Church Street Commons. Instructions and walking routes will be handed out to where you will walk or drive.

Hot coffee, bottled water provided at Church Street Commons.

Church hosts bazaar, dinner

ANDERSON -- Whetstone Christian Church, 5940 Madison Ave., Anderson, is having its annual church bazaar with a chicken and noodle dinner on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Grile Building behind the church.

The menu includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, roll, drink and dessert. Carry-outs will be available. Building is handicap accessible.

Tickets for the dinner are $7 for adults and $4.50 for children ages 5 to 10, and under 5 are free. Tickets will be available at the door.

There will also be a bake sale and craft sale.

Friends of Library to host book sale

ANDERSON -- The Friends of the Library will hold its monthly book sale on Friday and Saturday, from noon to 4:30 p.m. each day on the third floor of the Anderson Public Library, 111 E. 12th St.

This month’s sale contains a large selection of art and art history books. Also in the sale is the usual selection of hardback and paperback books, books for children and teens, biographies, and religion. DVD’s and CD’s are also for sale.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the programs of the Anderson Public Library.

Unity Church hosts bazaar, luncheon

ANDERSON -- Unity Church of Anderson, 2425 Mounds Road, will host its Holiday Bazaar and Gourmet Pasta Luncheon this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For $5, dine in or carry out. Shop for arts, crafts, baked goods, and gifts.

Library invites area to honor Heroes

NEW CASTLE -- As Veterans Day approaches, New Castle-Henry County Public Library, 376 S. 15th St., is preparing for its annual “Our Heroes’ Tree” open house celebration fr Friday from 3-5 pm. The Blue River Valley School Choir will perform and Pam Adkins, Outreach Program Coordinator, will share remarks at the start of the event. Refreshments will be served.

“Our Heroes’ Tree” is designed to honor and thank those who have served in any branch of the military during war or peace time. The community is invited to participate by bringing an ornament with the name of a service person to the open house. Those who cannot attend the open house may bring ornaments to the main desk at the library.

VFW celebrates birthday

ANDERSON -- The VFW Post 266, 3210 Columbus Ave., and the Marine Corps League will celebrate the United States Marine Corps birthday Friday. The public is welcome to join the celebration.

The post will then serve a New York strip dinner with baked potato, salad, green beans and roll for $9 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
