---- — Free bus rides offered to dinner
ANDERSON — Free bus rides will be provided to the John Lawson Memorial Thanksgiving Dinner that will be served free from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 2000 N. Scatterfield Road.
The menu will include turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, cranberry salad, sweet potatoes, cole slaw, pumpkin pie, dinner roll and drink. Information: 642-8061.
Historical Society plans Veterans Day presentation
ANDERSON — On Monday, to honor veterans, the Madison County Historical Society is hosting a presentation relating to the World War II Battle for Tarawa, which was the first American offensive in the critical central Pacific region. It was also the first time in the war that the U.S. faced serious Japanese opposition to an amphibious landing.
The presenter will be Fred Spencer, an authority on WWII events. The presentation starts at 7 p.m. in the Bowman Room of the History Center, 11 W. 11th St.

Food Bank to receive bread donation
MUNCIE — Aunt Millie’s Bakeries will donate more than 100,000 loaves of bread from their bakeries’ surplus during this holiday season to local food banks.
Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana will be one of the beneficiaries and this donation will help serve more than 74,000 food insecure individuals in Second Harvest’s eight-county service area.
Men's Auxiliary to host election
ANDERSON — The Men's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266, 3210 Columbus Ave., Anderson, will host nominations and a election for Junior Vice President and a confirmation vote on the president on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.

Grace Baptist to honor veterans
ANDERSON — Grace Baptist Church, 432 W. County Road 300 North, Anderson, will be honoring veterans on Sunday. All veterans will receive recognition for their service with a flag ceremony, patriotic music, and a free dinner for all veterans and their families.
The special service will take place at 10:30 a.m. where honor is paid to those who have defended our country.

21 parks to close for deer reductions
INDIANAPOLIS — Select Indiana state parks will close temporarily to allow for controlled deer reductions in the coming weeks. The dates are Nov. 18-19 and Dec. 2-3.
State parks affected are Brown County, Chain O'Lakes, Charlestown, Clifty Falls, Fort Harrison, Harmonie, Indiana Dunes, Lincoln, McCormick's Creek, Ouabache, Pokagon, Potato Creek, Prophetstown, Shades, Shakamak, Spring Mill, Summit Lake, Tippecanoe, Turkey Run, Versailles, and Whitewater Memorial.
Information on 2014 state park deer reductions, including online applications, will be available next summer at dnr.IN.gov/fishwild. The application deadline is usually the end of August.
