Frankton High hosts veterans program

FRANKTON — Frankton Jr./Sr. High School will present its Veterans Day Program on Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.

The combined junior and senior high school choirs and high school band will perform. Several seniors will assist in leading the program. The local Boy Scouts will present a flag-folding ceremony. Veterans and active duty personnel in attendance will be introduced and honored.

The public is invited. Veterans are asked to sign in prior to the program at the table in the outer hallway.

Aunt Millie's to distribute Hostess

FORT WAYNE — Aunt Millie’s Bakeries has entered into a limited distribution agreement with Hostess Brands L.L.C. that will allow Aunt Millie’s to sell Hostess snack cakes including Twinkies, Ho Ho’s and Cup Cakes to convenience stores in certain markets, including Indiana. The program will begin in early December.

Aunt Millie’s, headquartered in Fort Wayne, will also continue to distribute the Snack Planet line of sweet goods that the company launched in May.

Gallagher part of watermelon drop

VINCENNES — The comedian Gallagher will help revelers in Vincennes ring in the New Year with the spectacle of watermelons dropped from a giant man-made watermelon.

The comedian would seem a natural for Vincennes' annual watermelon spectacle because he's known for smashing watermelons with a sledgehammer. A dozen watermelons are dropped each New Year's Eve about 100 feet onto a "splatform" from an 18-foot steel-and-foam melon lifted high.

Bodies found in truck in river

FORT WAYNE — Fort Wayne police say the bodies of a man and a woman have been removed from a pickup truck that apparently drove off of a bridge and plunged into a river.

Police Sgt. Scott Caudill said a passerby called 911 about 7:30 a.m. Thursday to report new damage to the south end of the Tecumseh Street bridge. Fire personnel who responded to the scene determined there was a vehicle submerged in the Maumee River below the bridge and that there were victims inside.
