Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great holiday surrounded by family and friends.
As we enter a new year, the bowling world is beginning to heat up with many tournaments for all age groups. Get your calendars ready, because there is a lot to mark down. Local, state and national tournaments are all accepting entries at this time.
Locally, the adult city tournament is back and will be held in February. The new board has put together a brand new format for this year’s tournament. I will have more details next week on how the new format will work as well as dates and times.
The Master’s Tournament will be held at Cooper’s on the 25th and 26th of January. Early entry deadline is Jan. 10.
High school bowling sectional for the boys individuals will be held at Well’s Lanes in Elwood on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. The team event will be held on Jan. 26 also at Well’s at 1 p.m.
The high school girls sectional will be held with the same format on the same dates and times at Norwood Bowl.
The high school JV league will be finishing up its season this month. There is a match on Saturday at Norwood Bowl in Alexandria. Competitors will return to Norwood on Jan. 18 for an end-of-the-year singles tournament.
The Women’s State Tournament will be held beginning in March and running through the first of May. Cooper’s Sport Bowl in Anderson and Cooper’s Stardust in Noblesville will share hosting duties.
The Youth State Tournament will be hosted in Terre Haute this year. Beginning in March and running through May there are plenty of opportunities to make the trip. While you are there, qualifications for Masters and Queens will be held on Saturday nights only throughout the duration of the tourney.
These are only some of the tournaments coming up throughout the next few months. I will pass along more information as soon as I receive it.
There is always something for everyone and with such a wide variety of tournaments you should be able to find one that’s a fit for you.
Participation is a great thing, but even if you are unable to participate, come out and watch some of these events. There is a lot of bowling going on and you will get to see some really good competition.
If you are at an event that I am unable to attend and see something that you think deserves mentioning, I would greatly appreciate an email sent to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please leave a number or email that I can get in touch to verify or ask any follow up questions that I may have. With so much going on throughout the next few months, I can only be in one place at a time and will no doubt miss something.
Thanks in advance for your help in getting the sport of bowling and its participants the recognition that it deserves.
