ANDERSON, Ind. —
The Anderson University women’s basketball team lost to Fontbonne University 74-61 in the AU Tip-Off Classic on Friday at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium in the season opener.
The Ravens were led by reserves Mallory Miller with 11 points and Mallory King with 10 points as nine different players scored in the first contest. Miller made 4 of 6 field goals, including three 3-pointers. King was 4-of-11 from the field and added five rebounds.
Amy Wuestefeld had nine points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals, and Megan Williams added eight points and four rebounds. Cori Conner led the Ravens with 10 rebounds to go with six points and three assists.
The Ravens shot 37 percent from the field, including 6-of-19 from 3-point range while Fontbonne finished at 46 percent shooting, including 5-of-18 from behind the arc.
The Griffins had a 41-33 advantage on the boards, including 14-13 on the offensive glass. Fontbonne also had the edge in assists (18-14) and points off turnovers (16-15) while the Ravens had the lead in second-chance points (14-10) and bench scoring (39-4).
Fontbonne raced out to a 14-1 lead in the game, shooting 56 percent in the first half while holding a 46-32 lead. AU got as close as 61-58 with five minutes remaining, but a 10-3 run put the game away.
AU (0-1) plays Capital in the consolation game of the Tip-Off Classic today at 2 p.m.
