AU baseball continues spring success

---- — AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Anderson University baseball team defeated Rutgers-Camden 7-2 on Monday in Auburndale, Fla.

Jacob Craft led the Ravens offense with three hits and an RBI, and Austin Young also had three hits.

Zack Hufferd added two hits and two RBIs, including a double, and Connor Morris and Cole Heberling chipped in with a hit and an RBI each.

Cameron Dotson earned the victory on the mound, allowing four hits and two earned runs in six innings while striking out four.

Brad Ellis pitched two shutout innings, and Nick Nunez tossed the final inning in relief.

AU (7-2) plays Denison on Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla., at noon.

Softball

The Anderson University softball team lost to Hope College 4-3, but defeated Benedictine College 4-0 on Monday at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla.

Against Hope, Shelby Shaffer led the Ravens offense with three hits, a stolen base and a run scored.

Blake Thomas added a two-RBI single, and Kaite McCool also had an RBI as the Ravens led 3-0 after the first inning.

Sami Frazier took the loss on the mound, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out nine with six walks.

Hope scored single runs in the second, third and sixth innings to tie the game before scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a walk.

Against Benedictine, Nichole Frazier led the offense with three hits, two runs and an RBI, including a double and a triple.

Sorcha Cox added two hits and two RBIs, including a triple, and Brynn Gooding chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

Hannah Belvo improved to 2-0 on the mound, allowing four hits and no runs while walking two without a strikeout.

AU (2-2) plays SUNY Oswego (9 a.m.) and Allegheny (11 a.m.) on Tuesday in Clermont, Fla.
