Area roundup: Tigers dominate Muncie Central

ALEXANDRIA — Hailey Beeson struck out six batters in 4 1/3 innings, and Alexandria cruised to a 15-0 victory against Muncie Central on Tuesday.

Hannah Murphy led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Taylor Jennings and Taylor Jones each went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Alexandria travels to Wes-Del today.

Baseball

Daleville 7, Monroe Central 1: Six different Broncos drove in a run in the season opener, and Caleb Maddox's double was the game's only extra-base hit. Elliott Jackson pitched three innings for the win, allowing just one hit and striking out six. Lucas Floyd pitched four scoreless innings of relief, surrendering two hits and fanning four.

Brent Blackwell, Lucas Floyd, TJ Price, Levi Floyd, Jackson and Maddox each had an RBI for Daleville. Wes Biven stole two bases, and Levi Floyd, Brandon Vermillion and Price stole one each.

The Broncos (1-0) travel to Union City on Saturday.

College Softball

Anderson 9-5, Bluffton 4-2: The Ravens extended their winning streak to 16 games with a sweep of their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival. The school record is 17 games in 1999. In the first game, Morgan Burke led the offense with three hits, three runs and four RBIs, and Katie McCool, Yardley Collett, Brittany Sugg and Sam Steele each had two hits. Sami Frazier won her eighth straight game on the mound, allowing 13 hits and four runs. In the second game, Collett led the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Burke had two hits and two RBI, and Taylar Kelso added a home run. Hannah Belvo got the win, allowing six hits and two runs. No. 23 AU (17-2, 8-0 HCAC) plays No. 16 Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at 11 a.m.

College Baseball

Rose-Hulman 7, Anderson 4: Zack Hufferd led the Raven offense with two hits and three RBIs. Connor Morris added two hits and Jacob Craft an RBI. AU (14-7, 7-4 HCAC) plays Wabash in Westfield on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
