— After making it all the way to the semifinals of the Little League Major Softball World Series a year ago, the Riverfield All-Star team has run into a detour in its attempt to return to Portland, Ore. this summer.

This afternoon in Lebanon, in the team’s first game of pool play in the Indiana State Little League Softball Tournament, Riverfield suffered a close loss to South Bend Southeast, 9-7.

Team manager Seth Kelley said that the loss by no means takes Riverfield out of contention to make one of the four slots in the semifinals held next week. If the team were to win its final three games of pool play for a 3-1 record, they would all but be guaranteed a spot. A record of 2-2 would be questionable, though, he said.

Kelley’s team will again take the field in Lebanon tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Southport.
